‘teckning II’
press moulded plate/ transfers / 2012 / 50x25cm
This body of work was made for an exhibition at Aberystwyth: Ceramics Illustrated. ‘ Hand-made ceramics and contemporary illustration, two quite separate disciplines, are brought together here. With surfaces supporting images that are not simply decorative, objects familiar from their everyday utility, address ambitious concepts and themes. they provide arenas for depiction, expression, commemoration and political commentary.’
‘ And there are a range of relationships between the plasticity of clay and the drawn elements; illustration can appear very evidently upon the surface, as in several artists’ use of inglaze transfers in the final firing, or can be more deeply integrated into the materiality of the work, like the drawings on the platters of Hanne Mannheimer.'(Sarah Roberts, Ceramics Illustrated 2013)
